In progress is the Fantasy Fiction Novel, 'Perdita's Parallel Universe'. I am workshopping with Fantasy Fiction Writer, Louise Cusack to complete this novel and have it publsihed this year. Perdita’s
Parallel Universe ‘Perdita's Parallel Universe’ is a story about Perdita, who is frustrated with her boring life, her pesky little twin sisters and her mother bossing her around. She is shunned by girls her age because she is different. She seeks escape in a fantasy world of books, and soon discovers that by blinking at her reflection she can teleport into a Parallel Universe where thoughts rule. She meets Rachel and Jaxon at a party, and takes them into her other world, where they have many adventures. When Perdita writes a story called 'How to Save the World' they decide to turn it into a quest. They rescue Rachel's brother Kyle from a bully gang, and then save one of the bullies, a girl named Jess, who has run away from home and is hiding out in a cave. They enlist the help of the school counselor, Mrs Brady, who becomes an ally. Jess goes to Sydney to live with her grandparents, and there she expands the ‘Save the World’ quest by helping others. Meanwhile, Rachel’s parents have split up, and Perdita uses her Parallel Universe to help ‘glue the family back together’. Perdita's
parents decide she is becoming too unpredictable, and they make arrangements
for her to see a psychologist. Perdita is furious, and takes into
her Parallel Universe all the children who were at Skye's party, as
well as the twenty fairies from her twin sisters' birthday party.
The other world becomes chaotic, and Perdita must work out how to
beat Jaxon in a joust and turn her upside down world around to make
everything right again. Look for this story so that you can discover more about the dangers and delights of Perdita's Parallel Universe, where thoughts become things. |

| A Testimonial from Kate, 12 years old. Dear
Mrs Small, I must admit before I read your book, fantasy stories held little interest for me, but early on it was like my mind was transformed to a new way of thinking. Soon I became adapted to the story and was finding little times in my day to sit and just read and read. Not only was this a fantastic story, but it was like my imagination had come to life. If I ever have the opportunity to write a book I hope my book would make an impression on the reader as ‘Perdita’s Parallel Universe’ has had on me. Thank
you once again. A Testimonial from Jen - Ever Young. I have just finished reading the story of Perdita's Universe..... and I wanted more..... awsome read.... I felt every single emotion that girl went through... every blink of an eye, every kick, every grain of sand, even the birthday parties.... but I actually hovered over the sandhills rather than ran with them, cause running over sand dunes is hard and breath-taking work, so I hovered... but overall... I loved it... great story, very vivid and utterly believable... this is the stuff I used to do when I was young, when I could walk on air, so totally magic Joan, it is really a wonderfull story, so vivid, so true to the heart of the reader... just marvellous... the story held my attention totally, and I couldn't wait to read more and more... LOVED IT.... Congratulations.... Jen |
